Kenneth D. McKellar of Memphis — Attorney and influential pro-suffrage Democrat. Spoke at 1915 suffrage rally in Memphis, predicting women would improve politics and saying that working women needed the ballot for their own p ro te c tion . As U.S. Senator from Tennessee, he voted for federal suffrage amendment in Congress in 1918; received telegram in August, 1920, in San Francisco (where he was vacationing) from President Wilson, instructing him to "go to Tennessee and aid in getting the Tennessee Legislature to ratify the Amendment." He departed for Nashville and was a key strategist for ratification during the special session.
